Clark Gregg reprises his role of Agent Phil Coulson from Marvel’s feature films as he assembles a small, highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Together they investigate the new, the strange, and the unknown across the globe, protecting the ordinary from the extraordinary. Coulson’s team consists of Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), highly trained in combat and espionage, Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) expert pilot and martial artist, Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker); brilliant engineer and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) genius bio-chemist. Joining them on their journey into mystery is new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet).

With the news out recently that Joss Whedon’s S.H.I.E.L.D tv series had changed its title to the somewhat less palatable (if more marketable) title of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. I wanted to take a moment to talk about those agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. we’ve already met from the Cinematic Universe.
Think about it, these are people who are essentially government/military agents. Sure, they did covert operations, assassinations espionage and the like; but in a few short years have encountered frozen super soldiers, monsters, aliens, demi-gods and these men and women just kinda shrug and keep doing their jobs! These people are the epitome of dedicated!
I’m intrigued by the way S.H.I.E.L.D. works in the MCU as a binding force for all the different characters and stories and I’m excited to see it expand with next year’s The Winter Soldier and the S.H.I.E.L.D. tv series, whenever we get that. At the very least I know we’ll be getting Sharon Carter as Agent 13, and Robert Redford’s “commander of S.H.I.E.L.D.” who is apparently named Alexander Pierce. I haven’t heard yet whether or not Anthony Mackie’s The Falcon will be super-human or just an agent who happens to like flying with a wing-pack (is it any weirder than an agent who just really prefers bow and arrows over his gun?).So here’s to you Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for putting up with some seriously crazy shit.
